I finished William Burrough's Junky today.
I'm almost not sure what to think about it. He writes very well. It's incredibly mundane, matteroffact, simple and realistic. There was probably too much description about needles and what was happening with them but then I suppose if you're waiting for somebody to shoot it into your arm you probably do pay attention to these things. There was little imagery and when it was there it was a little unwieldy. Not forced, but noticeably imagery-like if you get me. I also had this feeling that I was waiting for the set-up to end and the plot to begin. I had to accept half-way through that very little would be happening. The ending was so incredibly abrupt I feel a little cheated.
But it is a good book, he's a good writer and I have great hopes for Naked Lunch. But Junky felt so restrained. It's almost as if he'd like to say a lot more but the sad fact is he seemed more occupied in telling us all about addiction than showing us. And maybe it's all symbolic. The boring side of a user.
He was at times very funny. At others a little worrying. I don't feel I've learned anything but I don't feel like I just wasted my time reading it when I could have read so many other things.
Here endeth the review.

Daniel Craig read that book in one of his lesser known films.
And that's all I have to say.

He does indeed. I liked that film though it took me a long time to remember the plot when I was telling somebody about it which probably isn't a good thing.
And it is the full member thread now. What glorious losers we are.

Yippee! (Although I am fully aware that I am about to ascend, as it were. Will ration my replies from now on.)

Still don't get why you're gonna "ration" your posts:
ra⋅tion /ˈræʃən, ˈreɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [rash-uhn, rey-shuhn] Show IPA Pronunciation
–noun 1. a fixed allowance of provisions or food, esp. for soldiers or sailors or for civilians during a shortage: a daily ration of meat and bread. 2. an allotted amount: They finally saved up enough gas rations for the trip. 3. rations, a. provisions: Enough rations were brought along to feed all the marchers. b. Chiefly South Atlantic States. food or meals: The old hotel still has the best rations in town. –verb (used with object) 4. to supply, apportion, or distribute as rations (often fol. by out): to ration out food to an army. 5. to supply or provide with rations: to ration an army with food. 6. to restrict the consumption of (a commodity, food, etc.): to ration meat during war. 7. to restrict the consumption of (a consumer): The civilian population was rationed while the war lasted
It doesn't make sense...

It's so he remains modest and doesn't look like his life is on here.

Writers use words in order to convey an image, or reinforce an idea. To do this, they have to twist the meaning of words and sometimes break the rules of grammer itself to acheive their results. Though the word 'ration' usually applies to foods, it also means a restriction in the flow of something. Therefore, we can take this idea of 'rationing' and use it for something else, in this case, website posts.
Now there's some food for thought.

Is that rationed food for thought or do you have to buy it? Also, while I completely understand your frankly lovely metaphor, I have to take issue with the fact that there is no way you can possibly run out of the ability to post on the forum, so rationing (in essence to make a finite supply of anything last as long as possible) doesn't suit your predicament. Disciplining yourself to not post too much (which you don't have a problem with anyhow) would be a more suitable thing to say. But then you would lose the whole metaphor. Life isn't fair man. You either can't use badass language or you're wrong
