I just finished it. It took me the better part of a month, but it's all done. And it was really terrific. I know I have a penchant for either saying things are amazing or shit, but this book was a masterpiece.
It's basically a novel about the devil and his band of merry aides as they descend upon Russia for a ball. On their way they cause the havoc and mayhem that you expect demons to cause, but they do it so artfully and perfectly that you end up admiring them for it. The book itself is so brilliantly written that I often found myself liking the devil and sympathising with him.
Running parallel to this is the story of The Master - a writer who created a work revolving round Pilate - and Margarita, his mistress. It's such an epic love story between them, filled with the over the top romance and need for each other that you expect and actually believe is possible for a novel set in this time.
It's a really stunning book. It's one of the few books where I felt emotionally stirred by the end. I recommend to anyone. You'll probably enjoy it whatever genre you read.
Ten Thumbs out of Ten.

Did he describe the devil? Did sound a lot like Stewart?

Artful, perfect, causer of mayhem...

Sadly Stewart did not fir the description of the devil. Maybe more like the hog-sized talking cat, but only a smidgen.

Oh, right!
Well, I can't kneel; I don't have a job and therefore don't do any labour.

It's not about if you can kneel, it's about "While you're down there..."
We're all terrible people here.

In an attempt to get this thread back on track, I was wandering through Borders before going off for a train home on Friday and saw The Master and Margarita in the bestsellers shelves. I'm rather short of cash right now and already reading a couple of other books right now, but would you recommend I buy it anyway?

Yes. It's long and will do you for a while. And it features a talking cat who shoots an owl! How can you not buy a book if it has that.

It shall be bought today. But just because it's long doesn't mean it'll last me a while. If I enjoy a book and really get into it, then I'll read and read until it's done.
