If it's hidden gems we're talking about here then 'Zatoichi' was on a few weeks ago; plenty of blind man kicking ass throughout with subtitles. Oh, and a guy dressed up as a gal who, as in every cross-dressing situation, becomes instantly attractive to men throughout the film with *sigh* 'hilarious consquences'.

Is I am Sam that one with the mentally disabled man trying to get his daughter back? I always get it confused with Son of Sam... which is about a serial killer...
My favourite not well known (like your wording) movie is... Show Me Love/ Fucking Amal. It's foreign and subtitled and about lesbians. What could be better... except finding it in a damn shop so that I could own it.

I am Sam is the disabled guy one. And Zatoichi is indeed a gem to watch. It took me a while to figure out the the blind man was actually the guy from Battle Royale. They did a count once and I think that over two hundred actors in the film died by Zatoichi's hand.
The not well known film I like to peddle is the Red Squirrel. It's a bizarre Spanish film about a girl who loses her memory and the random stranger who finds her and tries to convince her that she was his girlfriend. It's old, and it's as weird as fuck, but it's bloody good.

I have Zatoichi sitting in my pile of films I really oughta watch but never have enough time to in a boxset called "Films Quentin Tarantino ripped off to make Kill Bill" or something.
Not well known films that are rather awesome include A la folie pas du tout (He loves me, he loves me not) starring Audrey Tautou as Amelie if she was insane rather than kooky and endearing. French film (obviously) and the first half is told from her point of view and then it rewinds and tells it again from the point of view of guy she's in love with. Brilliant tale of obsession.
And I have to mention Y tu Mama tambien, a mexican film directed by the guy who did Children of Men. Lotta nakedness and homoeroticism but a fantastic film about these two best friends who take an older woman on a road trip to a beach they made up. Plus Gael Garcia Bernal is probably the most gorgeous man ever. Probably.

Gael is quite gorgeous, but no matter how gorgeous he is you SHOULD'VE TOLD ME OF THE HOMO EROTICISM BEFORE I WATCHED IT. I tell you, I was expecting a normal threesome and whoops what happened there?

Didn't I warn you? I'm pretty sure I did. Or at least I meant to tell you and that totally counts. I should lend you Bad Education and then you'll see I was easing you into Gael films.

If it's homo-eroticism you're after then check out 'Withnail & I'. It's a magnificent film that was on last night as part of Film4's British fortnight. '"We want the finest wines available to humanity; we want them here and we want them now!'

Aww man, Withnail and I is a classic. I wish I had it home so I could watch it again now.

Withnail and I is one of my favourite movies. Bloody brilliant! However, the homo-eroticism is comedic and the film is made from the point of view of drunk-and-on-drugs straight men, so it's not something I'd worry about.
However... Don't watch Mysterious Skin... It's amazing, in that poignant, walk away absolutely silent and never watch it again amazing way that films can be. I recommend it if you want a good serious movie, but if you're squimish about gay sex, I don't. It's also about child sex abuse... so, uh, yeah...
