Was watching an episode last night on 4. It was one of the old ones where Flanders starts up his left handed store. As a result I'm going to try and start an intersting argume...I mean debate.
When did the Simpsons stop being funny? I think anything after series 8 sees them slipping with only the occasional gag to redeem them.

Whenever I watched the Simpsons I was never exceptionally conscious of what season I happened to be watching, therefore when I stopped due to whatever reason (probably going to Uni and having so much drinking to keep up) I never took note of when it was. In short, I haven't seen the latest latest stuff and so don't know how bad it's become. I fear the worst because as an "always keep the status quo" cartoon, very little if nothing changes from episode to episode and so there is no interesting long stretching plot arcs, no character progression other than the individual episode Aesop, forgotten by the next title screen. After running out of their own stories and doing enough parodies for a spin-off show, if they have to rely on current events to make episodes it's going to date fast and as popular as it is, there is a virtue in quitting while you're ahead. Is it still going now? How many episodes have they passed? 500? 600? What'd I'd love to see is them announce that they will end the show after X-hundred episodes, and then when it comes time for the last ever episode, number 1000 or some crap, they don't show it, ending the show on 999, one before the grand finale number. It would be the ultimate audience mind screw, people will literally go insane, and I'd chuckle, satisfied that the Simpson's last and greatest joke was on it's devoted audience.

I wouldn't mind a really good spin off. I heard rumours that they conisdered doing full episodes of The Krusty the Clown show. Imagine if Itchy & Scratchy were given full shorts with a bit more violence. And crappy clown set pieces that end with a grouchy jester yelling for his producer to "Roll the damn cartoon!" before going not entirely offstage to light up a cigarette. It could be quite good.
Or rubbish, who knows.

I have never watched a season fully. It's just been random ones.
But I think they're funny! However, I find anything funny. Well, not anything. But I find the Simpsons funny.
Except that damned game that I remember getting stuck at... where is it till I thrash it?

Earloiest episode was...the one with the various events coming together. It involved Lisa's robot, Homer's severed finger, a monkey, a stolen pick-up, and more laughs than an empty funeral.
Liking the use of Trope language, Tom. Perhaps we should become Tropers at some point though everyone is a Troper, deep down.

It's been a while since I watched The Simpsons. My brother and I tend to default to Futurama these days instead.
But I remember The Simpsons told me Darth Vader was Luke's father before I ever watched Star Wars. Took all the tension out of that fight scene when I finally watched ESB.

Aw, you poor thing!
I must have watched it that early I can't remember it. I just have always remembered what happened.
As for Futurama, I cannot describe how awesome it is!
"My parents, my girlfriend... I'll never see them again... Woohoo!"

Oh no you don't! As much as I love Futurama, there's a thread for that, that you can revive. I thought everyone was born knowing that Darth Vader was Luke's father?
