I'm going to pretend you didn't say any of that...
Which would you prefer to borrow, Yellow or Gold? I feel Yellow is just the right level of adorable for you, what with Pikachu and all, but Gold is definitely more relevant and also in colour.
You must pick one.

She should take Yellow, then Gold. That way her piscine attention span will allow her to get enough of a flavour for the originals before moving on to the second to see what all the fuss is about. Then she can make an unbiased, informed decision and agree with us.
Unless she actually reaches the part with the eggs and the babies, then we may have lost her.

She could get Heart Gold or Soul Silver herself and play them for the ability to have any pokemon you want follow you.

That's a pretty lame reason for buying what appears to be Gold & Silver V2.0

Sometimes, Tom #2 makes me want to hate Pokemon, my one true love. (Well, besides Star Wars. And chocolate.) I mean, a better reason would be the superior interface, but for £30 I think I'll stick to the classics.

Well it is the only major change from Platinum etc. to HeartGold SoulSilver. There are a lot of other changes such as the Battle Tower system and EV inheritance but they aren't of any significant importance when you start the game.
Meanwhile if you're comparing it to the original Gold/Silver/Crystal then yes there is a superior interface/graphics/colours.
