It is the idea of our oh-so-glorious leader that we should have an anthology of stories and poetry out for people to peruse; short ones of a page or two preferably that show the range of the Writer's Society's work.
And what are those 'flavours' exactly?
Tom: Science Fiction and Equality for Women in the Workplace, even if said workplace is a battlefield. Becks: Smut. Andrew: Yarns from the world of Halo. Occasional acid flash-back. Euan: Don't get me started. James: Domestic Vampires/Icelandic Viking Vampires Pete: Sub-standard literature that not even the CW class would accept, and we've all had a good read (and laugh) about the CW class's work.....(HAHAHAHA! ENTRY DENIED, PETE!) Kyle: Probably our only hope. Robert: Our other hope. If he turns up. Kieron: ..... Hazel: People smashing themselves through windscreens and then driving into a canal to prove a point. Me: Nothing coherent. Cati: She's in America. She's dead to us now. Lauren: Women tied to things.
I have a feeling that we'll have no new members next year. That is, of course, where the recruitment sack comes in.

Stewart, we will acquire plenty of new members. The primary reason for which will be the fact that it will be you we throw into the recruitment sack.
On a more serious note, which is pretty impossible to achieve when dealing with you, where do we send pieces for this? Don't we usually just use the Competition Anthology?

We could do that, I guess. Contact Andy and see what his plans are for the thing; if he wants an anthology made then send your stories to me for an edit; we'll want to make the best impression possible and a little touch-up/feedback can't hurt (besides, we should get back into the swing of things again).

Suppose fresh stuff couldn't hurt. Now I'm torn between currently hating you for your snide comments and the fact that you're very competent at critiquing.

Why does you saying "We should get back into the swing of things" give me the mental image of yourself swinging a buzzsaw around that you use to slice up people's task pieces before discarding the shards of tattered ambitions into a fire of hopelessness that's being used to bake cookies of fail filled with sorrow sugar and chocolate chips of despair? Is it just me?

I may have been a little overzealous last year. I shall be nicer kinder more restrained more subtle something this year.

Maybe I should write something from the POV of a zombie, then.

So your character is an American consumer, then.
GOD I HATE AMERICA.

There'll be no yarns of Halo from me this time. Halo is now a distant memory, I'll let someone else have fun playing it now.

Alright, but as the president you need to lend yourself credibility by producing a good-quality piece and I think that the best way to do that is with a self-contained short story (Beginning-Middle-End). Your short-stories outside the Slapping A Wet Fish series have tended to be excerpts from longer projects, the science, setting, and character physiology of which require a lot more runway than 1000-2000 words (into which also has to go an interested narrative, etc) to avoid leaving the reader cold.
I advise, if you decide to do a Sci-Fi story (we should organise it so that there is only one Sci-Fi story to avoid driving other genres of writer away), that you use an easy to understand setting, with humans (those Umins take some work understanding) and perhaps less emphasis on the science (regardless of whether it is accurate or not).
If you need an idea to start with, maybe go for a story that revolves around two people on an long-range exploration craft (remember Aoi and what's-his-face?) who've just fallen out/broken up and are unable to get away from each other. It'd be a hilarious slant on friendships/relationships and have a true-to-life element (because sometimes we fall out/break up with someone we see socially and then have to deal with the extreme awkwardness that follows).

Someguy - Stewart - I presume?
I have other stories that are, as you put it, self-contained. I'll bring them round on the 4th.
