I help Pete to his feet and think quickly about whether or not to try escaping.
"Look, I need to face the music here. If I run now, not only will I lose my membership but also my Rainbow Road commission. If I lose that, there's no point us even trying to succeed - there's no time to explain, you need to go. Take this" I say, stuffing an envelope into Pete's hand. "If I can't clear things up here... If you don't hear from me within 48 hours... then deliver this letter and tell the recipient that I'm being held by the Society."
"You're my leverage" I add, giving him all of the documents I have as well, "with the documents you have there I can get to the bottom of why Deiter just did what he did. If they don't see things my way though, you're going to have to get to ground because they'll come after you..."
"To get off this floor requires a passcode, an ID, and a retina scan. If you mutilate Deiter's body there's no way they'll believe my story, so you'll have to slip out with another researcher or find another exit ."
"Go! You won't have much time!" I usher Pete out and sigh deeply.
The first thing I do is check to see if there's any chance Deiter might have survived the gunshot... It was a rushed attempt, he might have got the wrong angle... I examine him to see if there's any chance he might live.
[For the stat tracker, please temporarily unequip my N-10 as I have left it in Deiter's hand (as part of my case of innocence) and equip the Hush-Puppy instead. Thanks.]

Fire Bear interrupts the rights reading to ask, "What're you going to do with the animals if I come with you?" She then nods her head towards the cat (who I'm presuming is still on her shoulder) and Blanka (who I'm presuming is standing next to me).

The two policemen respond by batting the cat off your shoulder and while one tries to handcuff you the other aims a kick at Blanka's muzzle. Needless to say, the dog does not take kindly to a) people (apparently) attacking you, and b) being kicked in the teeth. It flies for the officer trying to arrest you, bites into his throat, and wrestles him to the ground. The other officer draws his gun and makes to fire on Blanka. What do you do?

Bang into him and attempt to take the gun off him while simultaneously looking round to see where SIC the cat went...
Roll for success if required: 12

Vinny has retreated into PM mode for his next move; Mr. GM, there should be a message in your inbox.

Still somewhat woozy, I stumble down the corridor looking for a member of staff who may be able to help. I also look at the name on the envelope Starlong handed me. PM the name if necessary.

~~Fire Bear & Blanka~~
[Disarming the Long Arm] Fire Bear: 12 SM: 5 Target: 20 [Fail]
Your attempt to disarm a police officer fails, and he expertly breaks out of your grip and cracks you across the head with the butt of the gun (concussion: SM -1, unable to detect enemies). The officer then turns his gun on Blanka and shoots him, but not in time to save his colleague who is lying dying on the street. The officer yells his name and gets down to try and save him, forgetting all about you for the moment. Blanka lies motionless by the two officers with a bullet-wound. What do you do?
~~Pete~~
You stumble down the corridor but there is no-one in sight. You are then faced with a cross-roads, the choices being between heading down to the hangar, to the elevator, or down a hittherto unexplored corridor. Which way do you go?
~~Starlong~~
He's dead, Jim.

Fire Bear lifts Blanka and carries him into any alleyway/doorway/behind a mass of people to hide them from sight.
Then she gets out the F-Aid Kit. (I knew they would come in handy!)
Save Blanka: 20
Unless I need to roll to hide in which case you should take that one for hiding and the next one for the healing. So it's like this:
Hiding: 20 Healing: 13
Unless this makes no sense and then... Well, I don't know what then...

~~Pete~~
You head down the corridor, which leads you into what appears to be a communal area with lockers and bunks. It appears to be empty, save for a slumbering researcher in the far bed. What do you do?
~~Fire Bear~~
You don't need to roll for using an F-Aid kit, only if you're trying to fix someone up with your medicine skill.
[Hiding] Fire Bear: 20 SM: 5 Target: 19 [Success]
You successfully manage to slip into an alleyway with Blanka. Let's make that roll of yours for medicine:
[Dammit, Jim, I'm a doctor, not a veterinarian!] Fire Bear: 13 SM: 5 (+1) Target: 6 [Meh]
There's no real effect. So you use an F-Aid kit instead, healing Blanka of its injury.
So, you've got a dead police officer out there, an act of terrorism, and the surviving officer has seen your faces well enough. What's your next move?

I also told them where we were staying... <sighs>
Anyways, does the alley have a dead end or can I go away from the trouble? And if there is a dead end, is there a fire escape down the side of the building I can climb up?
And by "I", I mean Fire Bear.

Bex, it's roleplaying; first person is standard. For example:
I immediately run over to the researcher and make a snap judgement about his potential capacity to believe bullshit. Who am I kidding, he could have the Automaton 4000 lie-detector embedded in his skull and I'd still be as economical with the truth as possible.
With that in mind, I wake him up frantically.
"Please, you've got to help me. There's been a terrible accident and I need to get to the medical staff, NOW! I can't get out without a member of staff's help!" A fairly believable story since I'm wiping chunks of brain off my shoulder as I say this.
Any protests the researcher tries to make will be met with a, "DAMMIT, there's not time! A man's life hangs in the balance, come on!"
Again, pretty believable. As much as I might be convinced Deiter hasn't made it, Starlong's life is still technically in jeopardy. All in all, there's very little lying so my earnestness should make this easier.

~~Fire Bear~~
The alley is indeed a dead-end, but there is a fire-escape that leads upwards...if you can reach it, the ladder that takes you onto the first rung of the stairs is retracted (stops people accessing the building using it). As you look about, the Suspiciously Intelligent Cat returns and jumps up onto your shoulder. You still have the box with the Super-Nimble Mega Hamster. The alley contains a wheelie-bin, a discarded rolled-up carpet, and precious little else. There is a sturdy metal door but it's very unlikely it can be busted down.
~~Pete~~
[BSolicit] Pete: 7 SM: 5 (+1) Target: 1 [Success]
The researcher is still half-asleep and lets you drag him out of bed and down the corridor. He administers his bio-metric data, says the passcode (which you remember)...and is then patting himself down for the keycard. He looks at you hopelessly, expecting the ramifications of losing his keycard during an emergency to be dire. He tells you that he probably left it in one of the computer rooms, as a keycard is needed to use them. The elevator activation protocol times out and resets. What do you do?

"Dammit man, this is an emergency! Get us to that computer room now and I won't tell your superior that you misplaced your keycard."
I take it since he's already swallowed my BS, he'll believe me from here on in. However, the passive threat of telling his supervisor is quite sincere, even if it will go in one ear and out the hole in his head.

~~Pete~~
You have the researcher lead you back into the dorms and then through some more corridors toward the computer rooms. There's a security checkpoint to access them, however, and this guy is not the head researcher. The two of you are stopped and one of the security guards holds a hand up and asks for your respective IDs.
"Dammit, man! There's no TIME for that now!" bellows the researcher, throwing the security guard out of the way. "We've got an emergency here! I have to get to the computer room to find out what the hell's going on and save us all!"
Cowed, the security men comply and you are both waved through. In the computer room, the researchers and technicians inside look up as you storm in. The researcher you have BS'd (perhaps a little too successfully) shunts one of his colleagues out of the way and begins using his computer. You note the keycard on the desk and surreptitiously pocket it.
"Scans say everything's running normally...dammit! The crisis must have affected the computers! I'll have to activate the emergency shut-down!"
The researcher that your researcher shunted out of the way now grabs him, looking hysterical.
"No!" he shouts. "If you activate the emergency shut-down we'll all be trapped down here! The air-system will fail! We'll all die!"
"Better that than a meltdown costing all the lives above us!" screams your researcher (let's call him Charlie) back into his face. He knocks him clean out-cold with one punch, finishes typing something into the computer, and then dashes off toward a darkened computer booth sitting in a secured office at the far end of the computer room. If he makes it to that room, he will probably lock himself in and then activate the emergency shut-down. He is currently on Limit Break. What do you do?
~~Starlong~~
Security men finally turn up and find you with the dead professor. You surrender and they draw their guns, moving into the room One disarms you while the other checks Deiter, confirming that he's dead. They then put handcuffs on you and lead you away down the corridor, radioing into their colleagues about what they have just discovered. This is one hell of a risk you're taking here.
